Firestone Appoints Dr. K. Barron and Mr. T. Tucker to Advisory Board
| ||April 2, 2012 - Firestone Ventures Inc. ("Firestone" or the "Company") (FV:TSX-V; F5V:FSE) is pleased to announce the appointment and the addition of two new members to its Advisory Board; Dr. Keith Barron, Ph.D. and Mr. Terry Tucker, P. Geo. |
"Both Dr. Barron and Mr. Tucker have previous significant discovery successes and are welcome additions to Firestone's strategic advisory committee. Both will assist Firestone with identifying geological and development opportunities as well as strategic initiatives to move the company forward. Firestone has been advancing its zinc-lead-silver projects in anticipation of a supply gap with several of the world's major zinc mines closing within the next few years." said Lori Walton, President and CEO of Firestone. "Both new advisors just completed on-site due diligence accompanied by Ms. Pamela Strand, Firestone's new Executive Vice President. In addition, Firestone has met with government officials in Guatemala who have outlined the new President's action plan on resource development."
Dr. Barron is an exploration geologist with over 30 years' experience in the mining sector. He has consulted on all the continents except for Antarctica, searching for such commodities as gold, silver, diamonds, uranium, copper, platinum, and industrial minerals. He holds a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Western Ontario and a BSc. (Hons) in Geology from the University of Toronto. In 2001 he privately co-founded Ecuador gold explorer Aurelian Resources Inc., which was listed on the TSX-V in 2003 and made the Fruta del Norte gold discovery in 2006. The company was bought by Kinross Gold in 2008 for $1.2 billion. He is the founder and a Director of U3O8 Corp. (UWE:TSX-V) exploring for uranium in Guyana, Argentina and Colombia. In 2008 he was awarded the PDAC's Thayer Lindsley International Discovery Award for his role in the discovery of the Fruta del Norte gold deposit and he was also jointly named the Northern Miner's Mining Man of the Year 2008. Dr. Barron continues his activities through two private companies, Solidus Resource Capital Ltd. and Aurania Resources Ltd. in the search for worldwide mining and exploration opportunities.
Mr. Terry Tucker, P. Geo. has 25 years' experience in mineral exploration and development projects worldwide. Most recently Mr. Tucker was the CEO and Director of Nyota Minerals Limited (AIM, ASX: NYO) focused on advancing an advanced stage gold project in Ethiopia. Mr. Tucker was also President & CEO and Director of TSX-listed StrataGold Corporation, where he successfully advanced the exploration and development of two gold projects in both Guyana and Canada before the company's acquisition by Victoria Gold Corp (TSX-V: VIT) in June 2009. Previously Mr. Tucker was responsible for a number of exploration projects in northern Canada, including the discovery of the Wolverine Mine gold-rich massive sulphide deposit. His experience includes a number of prominent roles at strategic, operational and corporate levels. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology (Specialization) from the University of Alberta, Canada and is a registered professional geoscientist in British Columbia. Currently Mr. Tucker continues his activities in Europe primarily involved in financial services related to the mining sector.
Firestone has been working in Guatemala since 2004. Our main project is the Torlon Hill zinc-lead-silver project in Guatemala, Central America. The combined Measured and Indicated Resource totals 1,891,636 tonnes grading 7.32% zinc, 2.41% lead and 14.25 g/t silver (at a 3% zinc-equivalent cut-off). An additional 169,705 tonnes is classified as Inferred resources grading 4.42% zinc, 1.96% lead and 12.53 g/t silver (see news release Nov. 18, 2008). In addition, there is a basal zone of unoxidized sulphide mineralization which is not yet well defined by the drilling to date. The deposit remains open to expansion and high-grade zinc oxide mineralization defined to date is on or near surface.
